Devastating Update on UPS Incident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The number of victims due to the transport jet that caught fire and crashed has now risen to 13, according to recent statements.

Official's Statement

Traveling to the Teamsters’ vigil, I learned of a 13th person that died as a result of the UPS flight 2976 crash,” stated the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart is with the families, associates and colleagues of all who were lost in this recent tragedy. We will get through this as one.”

Deceased Confirmed

An announcement from the carrier named the officers operating the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to every staff member who has been affected and everyone in our community community – supporting you and making sure you obtain the support and assistance you need is our main concern,” the company’s communication expressed.

Inquiry Updates

National investigators announced that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing caught fire and an engine fell off soon after takeoff from the airfield, causing the plane to plummet and erupt into a fireball.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is probing the jet’s upkeep logs, that was in Texas for maintenance several weeks ahead of the crash.

Aircraft data showed the plane was on the tarmac in that location from early September to 18 October.

“We are aware that this jet was present in San Antonio,” stated an investigator on Thursday, not giving a precise date range. “We will review all elements of service that was done, from the repair period, all the way to the date of the flight.”

Findings of Key Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were recovered, and the engine was found on the runway.

The recorders – known as black boxes – were built to survive collision damage and intense fire from infernos, and they looked to be intact when located within the wreckage. Authorities plan on analyzing information from the devices.

Aircraft’s last recorded information showed an height of 475 feet and a rate of that speed before the accident.

Service Background

Per FAA files dated last month, a fissure on a component in the center wing fuel tank demanded repairs.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it provides structural repairs for the carrier’s jet and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, refused to speak, but said it would assist completely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Services Restart

In the meantime, UPS Worldport activities restarted Wednesday night with its express also known as night sort operation, spokesperson a representative said. All three landing strips at the aviation hub were also reopened.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the firm’s most significant. The hub hires over a large number of workers in the locality, manages three hundred aircraft per day and processes over four hundred thousand packages each hour.

Local Reaction

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the evening of that date by the area Teamsters Union, which supports staff at the aviation hub, the organization’s largest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents staff, started the vigil with a quiet tribute at 5.14pm, the approximate time of the incident two days earlier.

“This incident was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the official told the crowd of attendees. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to each of those who we have said farewell to.”
